Powers of Attorney

Our clients, young and old, regularly put in place powers of attorney to protect their interests. There are several reasons why you might need a power of attorney. You may be out of the country and need someone to act on your behalf in relation to your property or investments while you are away. This is a power of attorney in relation to property.

Or, you might want to have documentation in place which comes into effect if you ever lose your mental capacity through accident or illness to make decisions for yourself. This is an enduring power of attorney. These can be made in respect of your property and for your personal welfare so medical and care decisions can be made for you. These powers of attorney can only be used by the appointed attorney when you become mentally incapacitated. If you have these documents in place now, you can choose a person you trust to be appointed as your attorney.

Banks and other advisers may require you to have a power of attorney in place to avoid any difficulties if you suddenly become incapacitated.

Our specialist powers of attorney teams are led by Simon Dominick, Dennis McBrearty and Richard Ayton. Contact one of them to discuss your situation.
