Relationship Property

“Relationship property” or, as it used to be called, “matrimonial property” is a specialised area of law. At Law North Limited, we have lawyers who have considerable experience in these laws and navigating their clients through the legal steps.

If you are in a new relationship, you might need to consider a “contracting out” agreement to protect your assets from claims later on by your partner or their family members. This is especially important where second families are involved and there can be competing claims against your assets.

When you die, your partner or former partner may have a relationship property claim against your estate. You should therefore make sure that all your paperwork, including your will, is up to date to avoid any confusion or complications after your death.

If you are recently separated, we can help you sort out the relationship property so that you can move on with your life as soon as possible.

For relationship property advice, call one of our specialist lawyers- Graham Day or Laurel Simm.
